Behind the camera
A French citizen, I was born in Tunisia and have been living in Italy since 1986. My relationship with photography began with the purchase of a Nikkormat camera in 1974 when I was 16. At that time, Paris was full of photographic exhibitions and I shared this passion with some of my friends. It was a complex and costly pastime, especially printing my own pictures both in black & white and in colour, requiring a dark room, enlarger, chemical products, printing paper, etc. I remember that buying photo film was the main cost of my holidays. This period lasted a few years and ended when all my gear was stolen. I nearly thanked the thief because I was beginning to feel that my life was being overtaken by photography. Instead I dedicated my time to my family and my career as a software engineer, promising myself that I would come back to photography when it would all become easier. Digital photography started at the beginning of this century but it has taken at least 10 years for this technology to compete in quality with the analogue process. During this period, I acquired some new cameras and lenses (always remaining faithful to Nikon) and my passion for photography returned, helped by numerous business and personal trips. Now that my professional career is nearly over and my family grown up, I can once again dedicate my spare time to enjoying photography and to the much easier post production. My goal is not to become a professional but to multiply the opportunities to take pictures and to make progress. On this point, I would be happy to consider any proposal for a photographic session, relationships, etc. and this is the intent of my contact page. As my friend Sean Tucker says, "the meaning is in the making".
